style of interviews

Style:

Hard news:

Hard news interviews are topics that cover most serious news of widespread import. This style is mostly used concerning politicians.  Hard news stories mainly appears on the front of a news paper.  Hard news usually covers the most concerning issues such as crimes, business, politics and foreign affairs. Despite it generally covering the subject of the news story, hard news can refer to the way news stories are approached. What defines hard news isn't always about subject matter. Some might call a news story that's heavily reported, on a subject matter considered softer (like entertainment), it is labelled as hard news because of the way it is approached. An individual simply reading or watching an article can taint their perception of the world, which can affect them mental and make them become more insecure of their surroundings, It can also make them more vigilant because they become more aware on what's going around the world and keep them self safe and protected at all times.  Hard news is published almost automatically as the incident just happened becasue many publishers believe that it is vital and a matter of emergency for the public to be aware of these news.  For example; the killing of Alan Henning who was beheaded and videotaped whiles the incident happened, although the public wasn't able to see the video, the news of his death was immediatly publised and went viral all around the world.

Light Hearted:

Light-hearted is a contrast to hard news. Light hearted news which covers more pleasant news which wouldn’t be upsetting for anyone to watch or hear.  These types of stories rarely make it on the front of news paper as they are not considered worthy enough to be read in front since it's a matter of emergency for the generally public to be aware of. Although they may not be on the front of most newspapers daily, they are still considered as heart warming as they do not have a negative impact on people's lives and can make people feel at ease and less worried knowing theirs also good things happening around the world despite some bad ones being hear the majority of time. When it comes to light hearted stories the questions asked can vary depending on the purpose of the interview. If the interview is based on entertainment with a celebrity then the questions asked will most likely be light hearted which will consist the introductory questions, the confidence building questions and possibly development questions which may lead to the key questions.  When dealing with an emotional interview then light-hearted questions will be used to ease the interviewee into a state calmness and being comfortable talking about the subject making the questions are mainly positive not something which may upset them.  If the interview was light-hearted the questions will have humour which will be responded light-heartedly by the interviewee, as the questions will not be too personal or extremely uncomfortable for them to answer.  An example for this will be the announcement of the duchess second pregnancy of twins, this a light-hearted news as it will affect people positively knowing the duchess is again pregnant for the second time .

Entertainment:

Entertainment interviews or news stories revolve a lot around celebrities, chat shows, etc. They are often found in magazines, or in editorials in newspapers. The interviews will mostly be about celebrities who have recently been seen in the public eye, for releasing a new music album or movie ect.  This interview will mostly be done in order to attract the viewer’s attention as they will be interested on wanting to hear and know about what these happening are been up to. As celebrities face a day to day struggle of bad press, so within these entertainment interviews it gives them a good opportunity to correct any rumours or bad press they have received, and also show themselves as a fun and loveable characters in order to rebuild their reputation. These interviews can be used to find out information’s and gossips, but most importantly entertain the viewers. These interviews are commonly found in chat shows such as ‘Celebrity juice’ or ‘Jonathan Ross show’ an example will be an interview of JLS promoting their upcoming new album.
A show such a celebrity juice is purely made for the audience entertainment as it  mostly contains humour. In this episode we see one of the UK's biggest boy band 'JLS' making an appearance in the show.  During the interview  Keith Lennon (host) asks various questions concerning their music and some the merchandise they have (clothes, dolls, poster etc..) which automatically gives the boys the opportunity to advertise/promote theirs products, this is can also fall into promotional as they are promoting some of the things they are featured in. Keith also asks about their lifestyle since becoming celebrities how it has dramatically changed since being on the x factor and their relationship status which is imperative since many of their fans are girls, all these questions are the prime factor of the interview. Throughout the show Keith Lennon involves many activities in which the boy band get engaged with, in order to make the interview flow smoothly. Keith Lennon (host) hilarious personality and the fact there is more than one celebrity guest on the panel ( including molly and holly) lures the audience into continuing watching the show, having humour and celebrities on shows are mostly seen as entertainment as the audience mainly want to hear the gossip.

Investigative:

Investigative is slightly similar to Hard News in a sense where it mostly covers the serious and recent issues.  Investigative interviews are conducted to examine deeply into the matter and undercover unanswered answer people want to know. Politician s interviews are often investigative; the reason for this is because the questions asked tend to be intense which can also makes the atmosphere as intense as the main purpose for the interview is to get clear answers for each questions despite the refusal from the interviewee to give a straight honest answer because they are trained not to reveal too much for the majority of the time. Furthermore, investigative interviews can often have an interrogative feel about them, as the interviewer will try as much as possible to get the information the public want to hear from the interviewee. Investigative interviews and news stories are often found on programmes on the television such as ‘crime watch’  An example of this will be the interview concerning the water gate, David frost interviewing Nixon wanting to get him to admit his errors.

Promotional:

A promotional interview sole purpose is to promote a certain product or something.  This will mostly be entertainment promotion, for example an artist promoting their new song or a actor/ actress promoting a new movie they are featured in. the purpose of this interview, is usually for the viewing public to buy something that belongs to the promoter. Celebrities usually go on chat shows such as ‘Alan Carr ‘this gives them a great opportunity to promote and get gain more customers.

This is a promotional interview for the film 'Lucy'. Despite the fact that we don't  listen to the interviewer  asking the questions, we are already aware of the questions being asked by the way Scarlett Johansson replies, she explains the character she plays in the film, which is the main character, she tells us little more  about the character 'Lucy' so we get to know more background information on who she is. The majority of the questions asked were about how it felt working on this movie and the rest of the cast. this gives the viewers a lot more knowledge on the movie, which will persuade them to go and watch in order to know the full story. the purpose for this interview is to give the opportunity for Scarlet Johansson who is the main character in the movie a chance to promote this upcoming movie. Although we do not get the opportunity to see mini bits of the movie trailer,  her explanation of her character is very descriptive which is more than enough to capture the audience attention on wanting to watch it , gives the audience more awareness on what the movie is all about and a visually image on what it will be like watching.
